This post officially declares the death of my TetraT series. If you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ve probably noticed I slowed down the weekly rollout of it about a year ago. It became too much to stay on top of, especially with work and school.
But, in an effort to continue sharing great music, I’ve decided to create a new, monthly series rather than abandon sharing it all together. So, I’ll be sharing my favourite/most-listened-to album and EP from the past month, as well as anywhere from 5-25 favourite songs of the month not on those two releases.
I present to you, the month of April’s music through my eyes. Enjoy!
Album of the Month
ivy – charmer
No sophomore slump here. Charmer pick up right where they left off with their self-titled debut album in 2018 and prove they’re here to stay. The follow-up, ivy, shows how much their songwriting has grown over the past two years and is chock-full of catchy hooks and melodies. This is peak emo in my opinion, and the entire album flies by and the repeat button is punched once again. Fans of American Football, Elliott and the new midwest emo crowd (Free Throw, Hot Mulligan, Tiny Moving Parts) will love this album.
EP of the Month
1995 – Cloaker
It seems April was a very emo month for me, as Cloaker picks up where Charmer left off. This local band improved leaps and bounds just one year removed from their debut EP I Serve… A Higher Authority, which by no means was bad but 1995 is a huge improvement. There’s more of a rock/hardcore influence on these guys when compared to charmer, containing more of an edge. Fans of Movements, Citizen, Title Fight and Basement will find something to love in this EP.
Songs of the Month
Here’s a playlist with my favourite 25 songs of the month, plus 2 from Cloaker’s EP and 3 from charmer’s LP. Throw it on shuffle and vibe out.
