Tuesday’s Top Tasty Tracks
THE TOP FOUR BRAND NEW TRACKS FROM JANUARY 22ND-28TH.
Harmony Hall – Vampire Weekend
After three to four years away from music, Vampire Weekend are back, and back in a big way. Ezra and the boys have really cooked up some great songs, as shown here. This song clearly takes from 90s artists like George Michael and Paul Simon, but still stands on its own. Clocking in at just over five minutes, it’s quite the ride, but so enjoyable from beginning to end. Vampire Weekend continues to progress and impress, and I think they’re a band that will stand the test of time as ones that didn’t follow trends, but did their own thing.
Genre: Indie Rock
I’m So Tired… Feat. Troye Sivan – Lauv
Lauv is truly one of the most gifted pop songwriters of our time. His credits include Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, and the Backstreet Boys. It’s all the more impressive that he can write good songs for himself as well, as that’s a gap plenty of songwriters aren’t able to bridge. Though he’s had a couple hits prior to this, I think this song solidifies him as a mainstay in current pop culture. The harmonies in this song are truly what gets me. The chord progression isn’t anything special (though it’s executed to perfection with a muted acoustic guitar strumming), but the layered harmonies in the chorus are phenomenal. Sivan’s verse also adds another layer as far as the harmonies go. All around, an incredible song, sure to be on my end of year playlist.
Genre: Alt. Pop
On My Way – Angel Du$t
Angel Du$t have such an infectious energy about them that I jam everything they put out. They’re creative (see the Claves or Woodblock they used in this song). Though this song is short, it packs the energy in and has a great hook throughout. The acoustic guitar adds a very campfire-feel to this song, giving the song such a raw and energetic feel. The gang vocals to close the song out makes it feel so unifying. They’re such gifted yet understated songwriters, and that’s clearly showcased in this song.
Genre: Punk Rock
Foreign Flame – Weeping Hour
Weeping Hour is a brand new band that immediately impressed me. They’re joining elite company with a sound similar to Invent Animate and Silent Planet. These guys have incredible guitar work and weighty vocals. I love their deep lyrics, chock-full of meaning and research. And it’s heavy. It all hits so hard. The polyrhythmic breakdowns, the djenting guitars, and the atmospheric picking all adds up to an incredible song that I honestly can’t get enough of. Weeping Hour is probably my favourite “new” band.
Genre: Metalcore
Thanks for checking out another post about incredible new music. Remember, it doesn’t matter what you like, as long as you support it.
